On Thursday 12th March, Wood Green BID hosted their first Ramadan Community Iftar, welcoming over 80 guests to the Record Shop. The Iftar provided a unique opportunity for meaningful connection and networking, creating a space where individuals from different religions, cultures, and backgrounds could come together in a warm and inclusive environment. As the evening unfolded, guests were able to engage with one another, explore local businesses, and take part in a shared experience that reflected the diversity and vibrancy of Wood Green.
The programme began with a period of networking and community engagement, followed by a welcome address from BID Chair Harry Rashid, followed by London Islamic Cultural Society leader Bibi Rabbiyah Khan, who introduced the significance of the gathering and the spirit behind the event. The Adhan (call to prayer) marked the moment to break the fast, with guests sharing dates and water before Muslim attendees observed prayer, led by a local Imam. The evening then continued with a shared meal, encouraging further conversation, connection, and reflection.
A standout feature of the event was the incredible support from local businesses along Turnpike Lane and Wood Green, whose contributions helped make the evening truly special. Guests enjoyed a rich and diverse selection of dishes, with main meals generously provided by Puraan, India Town, Royal Hyderabadi, and Karak Chai. Desserts were kindly supplied by Praan, while Shania Supermarket provided dates for the traditional breaking of the fast. Additional sponsorship and support came from Sabha Jewellers and Gaya & Co. Properties, demonstrating the strength and generosity of the local business community.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was warm, welcoming, and uplifting. Attendees shared not only food, but stories, experiences, and a collective sense of belonging. The event stood as a powerful reminder of how community-led initiatives can bring people together in meaningful ways, fostering understanding, connection, and local pride.
Overall, the evening was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended and reinforcing Wood Green BID’s commitment to supporting a connected, inclusive, and thriving local community.
